The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) provides human resources consultation and support to leaders and employees in assigned colleges and departments in the university. The HRBP leverages their strong background & experience in multiple areas of HR to guide and advise on a wide array of workforce and organizational matters.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Trusted advisor for employee/leader consultations, employee relations, performance management and investigations: Proactively partners with assigned college/department leaders and employees, providing counsel, support, and guidance on a wide variety of workforce matters including employee relations, workforce management and staffing, employee engagement, and employment policy/compliance. Identifies HR strategies that align with university and college/department goals.
- Partners with assigned areas by providing ongoing counsel, advisement and training on various employment and employee relations issues, including administering coaching and feedback opportunities, corrective action, performance improvement plans, mediation or conducting termination meetings.
- Interprets, coaches, and trains employees and leaders on HR and other applicable university policies, procedures, and best practices
- Conducts investigations relating to violations of Marquette policies and applicable employment regulations/laws. May participate with other campus offices (e.g., Title IX) in their investigations.
- Utilizes data (i.e. employee engagement, exit interviews, and other workforce data) to inform action planning and other improvement opportunities within assigned colleges/departments.
- May serve as HR liaison for college/department in crisis and other emergency situations.
2. Projects
Participates in the development and execution of university-wide HR programs and projects as well as internal compliance projects that impact our workforce. May lead (with supervision) moderately complex HR projects on a variety of topics.
- Sets project objectives, identifies activities and deliverables, manages schedules, and follows up to ensure deadlines are met.
- Conducts research, partners with campus and other subject-matter experts.
- Engages stakeholders to solicit input/feedback.
- Develops/contributes to communication and implementation planning.
- Represents Human Resources on cross-university projects as needed, serving as subject matter expert and HR liaison.
3. Compensation and Job Descriptions
- Provide comprehensive support to leaders in assessing job descriptions to ensure clarity, fit with organizational needs, and fit within institutional practices.
- Advises and guide supervisors on new hire offers, merit and other compensation adjustments.
- Work collaboratively with HR team to provide supervisors and employees answer to compensation questions to ensure clarity.
4. ADA and Leave management
- Leads supervisors and employees through interactive processes and brings resolution to ADA accommodation requests. Partners with other internal partners (i.e. Registrar, Parking, Facilities) to ensure the institution’s ability to meet accommodation needs.
- Partners with third party vendors on employee leave and return to work processes (e.g., FMLA and personal leaves).
5. HR Policy, Procedures, and Compliance
- Assists in the development and implementation of HR/university policies and procedures; engages stakeholders, communicates, and trains to facilitate clarity and responsibilities.
- May participate in union contract negotiations including preparation meetings with key stakeholders, contributing to agenda/topic ideas, researching policies/practices, and other related activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience
Effective communication and exceptional listening skills
Ability to work with ambiguity
Demonstrated courage and composure in difficult situations
Demonstrated judgment, discretion, and strict confidentiality
Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment regulations and laws
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people of different backgrounds, perceptions, and experiences
Proven experience with managing employee relations investigations
Strong problem-solving skills
Effective relationship-building skills across all levels of employees
Ability to independently set priorities and manage multiple assignments/projects/situations with tight deadlines
Minimum of 2 years of experience
