Summary:
The Instructor in Renewable Energy will be responsible for teaching courses within the Wind energy Program. These may include Introduction to Wind Energy, Introduction to Solar Energy, Mechanical Systems, Hydraulics, Electrical Theory, Electronics, Motors and Generators, Substations and Voltage Regulation, Field Training and Project Operations, Networking and Computer Technology, and other wind, blade repair, solar, drone, and substation courses. A bachelor's degree is required with a master's degree preferred. An exception to the bachelor’s requirement may be made if the candidate has an associate degree and substantial industry experience. It is preferable that the candidate has teaching experience at the college/technical school level and the ability to develop and teach distance courses in an online format.
The Renewable Energy Instructor is accountable for the following duties:
· discharge effectively and efficiently the duties and responsibilities as defined in the instructor contract
· teach courses within the Wind energy Program including wind, solar, drone, and substation courses
· work with the program in the development of assessment and outcomes for courses in the department and program
· work with the Wind Energy Program in the development and approval of technical certificates, Associate of Applied Science programs, and transfer programs
· participate in division, program, and faculty activities including working with advisory committees for AAS programs
· prepare syllabi for all courses taught following the format prescribed by the NMHED and have those syllabi on file in the Vice President for Academic Affairs’ office;
· 10. work with the Perkins programs/CTE including the development of articulation agreements with high schools
· work with the VPAA on the preparation of the class schedule each semester
· provide information to the Academic Affairs’ office for federal, state, and internal reports
· incorporate technology into the curriculum
· assist in the development and delivery of online courses in the renewable energy program
· be able to assist with climbing a 100 foot wind turbine and help maintain and operate a wind turbine
· work with business and industry to develop relationships and support for the renewable energy program
· perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
· A bachelor's degree is required.
· An exception to the bachelor’s requirement may be made if the candidate has an associate degree and substantial industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master’s degree
- It is preferable that the candidate have teaching experience at the college/technical school level and the ability to develop and teach distance courses in an online format.
Language skills:
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills a must. Ability to read and interpret texts related to the discipline; documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions; and procedure manuals. Ability to write required reports and correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and groups of students and others from within Mesalands Community College and out in the community.
Mathematical skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
Reasoning ability:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Technology skills: Computer Competency; Capable of applying and maneuvering within various software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to walk, stand, sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, and lift; and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, depending on the discipline area.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment from low to high. Job performed indoors in a classroom and studio environment with adult students.
